Purruja Lodge is more than just a place to stay, it’s a temporary home surrounded by nature, run by a family who truly values hospitality.
What began many years ago as a small project has grown into a beloved hideaway for those wanting to experience the real Costa Rica.
No air conditioning, no fancy shows, just recovery, wildlife, honest encounters, and people who care.
Who we are – and how it all started
“I had a farm, a chicken business, and even a mechanical shop – but it was tourism that finally felt like the right path for me.”
That’s how the owner describes his journey. Nothing was planned – it all unfolded over time, with patience and heart.
Today, the family lives in one of the houses on the property, cooks for the guests, cares for the animals, and is happy to share local tips and hidden gems in and around Golfito.
Our philosophy: Simple. Honest. Connected to nature.

Why „Purruja“?
Our lodge is named after a small insect that’s known in the area – but thankfully, not found here. The districts of Golfito are named after animals, and Purruja is the name of ours. The name stuck – and has become a small, charming trademark.
Our dream: To preserve and share nature
Our next heartfelt project is the “Jardín Emplumado” – a bird garden on the property. A place where guests can observe even more animals, where peace and mindfulness are at home.
